When I read It’s Kind of A Funny Story for the first time, it immediately reminded me of Perks. It’s Kind of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini is about a clinically depressed teenage boy who checks himself into a psychiatric hospital after he reaches a really low point. He really reminded me of Charlie. In the hospital, he becomes friends with some teenagers and even adults who help him appreciate life a little more, the way Charlie’s friends do for him. Both books explore the world of mental illness in teens and living life with it. The world really needs more books like these.
